A Day in the Life Children’s Author Sherrill S. Cannon

As you can see I have quite a few children’s author friends. But even if my author friends are not specifically a children’s author most, if not all the authors I will be featuring, write wholesome books that most teens would be should be able to read. Sherrill is another such author I met through the John316 network. I hope you enjoy reading about her. Please write a comment or two below!

A Day in the Life Children’s Author Sherrill S. Cannon

sherill canonWhat an interesting concept! Since I have just celebrated my 75th birthday (while signing the contract for my upcoming 2015 release, Mice & Spiders & Webs…Oh My!) I have experienced quite a few days so far! I can honestly say that I really have no typical day. I am retired, I travel in our RV from coast to coast with my husband of 55 years for six months of the year, seeing family and sharing books. The rest of the year we live in New Hope, PA (when we’re not traveling on the East Coast!)

We have four children and ten grandchildren, and try to spend time with all of them. My husband is a part-time engineering consultant, so I spend part of my time as his bookkeeper and administrative assistant.

I spend a LOT of time on my computer, iPad and iPhone, marketing my books and interacting on social media, and I especially enjoy book-readings at schools where I can share my stories with the children. So when do I write?

I start each day with my favorite mantra: “This is the day the Lord hath made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it!” So I try to enjoy each day…and make as many memories as possible! Since most of my stories were written a while ago – and put into my computer to think about publishing when I had more time – I am content to publish one a year. So I pull out a story, update it, polish it, and submit… (I now am the author of seven published children’s books and seven published and internationally produced plays for elementary school children.)

I still have quite a few stories that I work on occasionally, since my stories are all in rhyme and I love to create in rhyme and meter, but most of my writing now is about keeping up my website/blog, requesting reviews, entering contests, helping other authors, staying in touch with my friends and fans, and writing pieces like this one!

BullyMMGJI am very active with my two Fundraising sites, http://sbpra.com/CureJM where 50% of the cost of my books goes to the CureJM Foundation to help find a cure for Juvenile Myositis, an incurable children’s disease, as well as http://sbpra.com/imbullyfree where the 50% goes to imbullyfree.org. and where my children’s book, Manner-Man, is their superhero! All of my books try to teach something, especially consideration for others, disguised as fun stories.
I’ve been a member of the John 3:16 group for a long time, and enjoy reading about everyone – especially Lorilyn and all she does for us. My Christmas book, Santa’s Birthday Gift, was a best-seller again this year – now over 5000 in sales – and I credit a great deal of that success to her help with the “If You Like This Book, You’ll LOVE This One” campaign. She is an inspiring leader as well as an awesome author!!!

Great post, Sherrill! Really enjoyed reading about your active life. Hubby and I enjoy traveling so much and have done a lot of it throughout our married life. We’re not about to stop now! Lol. Your book sounds fantastic, and since I have a three year old grandson, the light of my eyes, sounds like I have another book to buy for him. Blessings!
