How to set up a Goodreads Giveaway (physical book)

If you’re an author—even a new one—and have done any form of research on Indie or self-publishing you’d have heard of Goodreads. An arm of Amazon it’s where voracious readers congregate and opine about their latest reads. It’s not a bad place to conduct a giveaway. At the time of this writing, Goodreads is experimenting with giveaways for those who only have a Kindle eBook. Traditionally you’d have to give away a physical book—paperback or hardback—but their new promotional tool will soon be available to authors who’d only have ebooks on Kindle to give away.

(In case you have no idea how to set up a Good reads account, here is a walk-through. This is a general overview. https://youtu.be/ViljHuZ72Ts?t=1m20s but it was done in 2014. So the Goodreads bar at the top looks different in 2016 and you can see the changes here: https://youtu.be/eqOcLixLITo?t=20s )

In the event that you have two editions of the same book and you’d like to reconcile you can take a quick view of this how-to: https://youtu.be/2YRctC95f_8

Also, if you have not done so please connect with me on Goodreads. I am Goodreads author, too! https://www.goodreads.com/emmarightbooks

goodreads-badge-add-plus-71eae69ca0307d077df66a58ec068898 Right now they have it set up so that it costs $119 to participate using your eBook as a Giveaway. Some authors who have run the paperback giveaways with Goodreads find this $119 price a rip off since it would only cost a few dollars (postage /shipping costs) to send out a physical book in the USA. So it’s your call. bear in mind some authors, like Gillian Flynn, the author of Gone Girl, claimed her fame through a Goodreads Giveaway.

Since the eBook giveaway is at a Beta stage I have only videos below that teach you how to upload and run a physical book giveaway with Goodreads. Once the eBook version is open for everyone (they have limited this to only 100 authors and they opened up the Beta in May 2016) I will upload how-to videos of that as well.

After scouring YouTube these are some of the better how-to videos I find useful. They cut through the chase and I hope you find them helpful. Below is one on how to set up a Goodreads Giveaway.
